Main Installation Program

The main installation program [RCSimIns.exe] will start automatically when the CD is loaded into the CDROM drive. If you turned off the autorun feature of the CDROM drive, then you will need to locate RCSimIns.exe and run it manually (double-click). The following is the running screen of the installation program:

It is highly recommended that you view the readme file for any latest important information. You can then proceed with installing FMS (v2 beta 7) and then the FMS Additional Scenes & Models.
Note: In the CD, there's a complete duplicate of all the files in the [backup] folder; in the case you have problem reading the CD, try the [backup] folder.

Note: Although you can download and install the BackYard Edition Simulator, an unlock code will only be issued to customers who has paid for a license. Interested in getting a license?

Once finished, just click done and you are ready to fly! (yes, crash, and more...)

FMS Installation (v2 beta 7)

When you click on the [Install FMS Simulator (V2 beta 7)] button, the FMS installation routine will start. An alternate method to start the FMS installation is to locate and run fmsdisk01.exe on the CD (can also be freely downloaded, see link).

The following is the first screen, I assume you will choose english.

Then comes the License Agreement. You must check [I agree...] to proceed. Next is the installation location. Please note that if you select a location other than the default, please remember that location since you will need to install the additional models in the same place.

At the end of the FMS installation, you can launch FMS immediately. Please see the FMS Operation section, especially for Mapping and Calibration. Once you have a feel for FMS, you can then proceed with installing Additional Models (or you can just install all additional models now)

FMS Additional Models Installation
also SkyPick, Model Design Pack. PICjoy, and Downloader for Models & Landscapes

When you click on the [Install FMS Additional Scenes & Models...] button, the Additional installation routine will start. You will first see the License Agreement. Click Yes to proceed.

The Destination Directory must be the same as the FMS main program (above)

Note: some of the distribution CD may have this Destination Directory as
[C:\Program Files\TTi....]
Please change this to the same directory as the FMS installation, such as:
[C:\Program Files\FMS]

Next you will select the Setup Type. If you want to install everything (more than 700MB), then just choose Typical. If you don't have enough room on your harddrive, the installation program will complain and give you an opportunity to select Custom - this is where you can select just the package of your choice.

For the Custom setup type, you can select just the package of your choice. The additional models are split into four groups (each group contain models from different designers). The required disk space is indicated next to each group. Please note the Space Required and the available space on your disk (the case below shows there's not enough room!)

Confirmation before installation of the files

Congratulations! Let's go flying! Well, before that, please check on FMS Operation / Calibration first.

Microsoft DirectX Driver Installation

Depending on you existing Windows installation, you may not have the latest version of DirectX driver from Microsoft installed. You can choose the appropriate version for your Windows:

  • DirectX version 8.1 for Windows 98/ME
  • DirectX version 8.0a for Windows 95
  • DirectX version 8.1 for Windows 2000

It is not required to have the "latest" version of DirectX. Click on the appropriate version button and follow the procedure on screen. You will need to reboot at the end of DirectX installation. If you are running Windows XP, you already have DirectX 8.1 installed. Also visit the Microsoft DirectX page here for latest information on DirectX.
